Anthony Gordon Williams

Deputy Director

Professor Anthony Williams is an internationally recognized leader in the field of theoretical nuclear and particle physics. He has the role of Deputy Director in the Centre as well as being the Adelaide Node Manager. He won the Boas Medal for his research in particle physics in 2001 and is a Fellow of the American Institute of Physics and the Australian Institute of Physics.

He has published widely in nuclear and particle physics and also regarding possible candidates for dark matter particles and on the experimental bounds of their properties. In addition, he has interests in computational physics and is a member of both the SABRE and CYGNUS-Oz experimental collaborations. He has actively supported the design and construction of the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory (SUPL) since 2015 as the Adelaide representative on the SUPL Steering Committee. He also has many years of experience in the management of Theory, Direct Detection and Research-Support enterprises including eResearch. In 2022 he published a textbook "Introduction to Quantum Field Theory: Classical Mechanics to Gauge Field Theories” with Cambridge University Press.
