Apr. 8th 2021 : Ground-breaking work at SUPL

A ground-breaking ceremony was held within the excavated surrounds of the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory today, deep in the Stawell Gold Mine.

Victoria’s Minister for Regional Development, Mary-Anne Thomas, was in attendance; the Victorian Government has played a key role in the progress of SUPL, having committed $5M to the laboratory’s construction and fit-out.

The large-scale excavation of the site has been completed. Today’s ceremony marks the very significant step of the commencement of work on SUPL itself, with Ballarat construction company H. Troon Pty. Ltd. as the primary contractor for the works.

Here is the Minister’s official press release.
