Three PhD scholarships at The University of Sydney
Applications are open for up to three PhD positions at The University of Sydney, to conduct research in the field of dark matter. The scholarships are funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with academics in the astroparticle group, including Prof. Celine Boehm, Dr. Theresa Fruth, Dr. Laura Manenti, Dr. Ciaran O'Hare and Dr. Ellen Sirks, on a range of possible projects related to dark matter, including the option for both theoretical and experimental projects.
The research may incorporate any mixture of theoretical particle physics, astroparticle data analysis, cosmological simulations, the construction and testing of particle detectors, as well as analyses of experimental data from dark matter detectors in Australia. The ultimate projects would be subject to discussion, depending on the preferences and skills of the successful candidates. There will also be numerous opportunities to collaborate and engage with other particle physicists from across Australia and around the world.
Benefit
The scholarship supplies a stipend set at the ARC rate of AU$29,863 per annum for 3 years, with options available from the faculty for additional completion scholarships. There will also be up to AU$1500 provided for computing resources by the School of Physics, and further postgraduate research support funding of up AU$3500, subject to application.
Requirements
By the starting date, the candidate must hold a First or Second Class Upper Honours degree or Masters degree with a substantial research component. Ideally, past research experience should be focused towards particle and/or astroparticle physics but can be within either experimental or theoretical disciplines.
