Jackson Mitchell-Bolton

Jackson Mitchell-Bolton is a PhD student working on axion detection with radio astronomy. He is supervised by Dr Ciaran O'Hare & Dr Manisha Caleb at the University of Sydney, as well as Dr Andrew Zic at the CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility. To start off his PhD, he is constructing a pulsar polarisation array using ultra-wideband data from the Parkes Radio Telescope Murriyang. With this he will search for birefringence induced by ultralight axion-like dark matter (ALDM) and place constraints on the Chern-Simons coupling between the ALDM and electromagnetic fields. Additionally, he plans to search for spectral line signatures of stimulated axion decay, in particular making use of the intense magnetic fields of neutron stars.
