Research Fellow in Particle Physics

(Level A) $80,258 - $108,906 p.a plus 17% superannuation applies.

A full-time, fixed-term position for two years at Melbourne University Parkville Campus to work on aspects of the dark matter detection program.

You will support the experimental program of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics. You will work on aspects of the dark matter detection program, including: the SABRE experiment and other underground direct detection experiments that the Centre contributes to, and R&D for future direct detection experiments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting internationally competitive research in dark matter direct detection, resulting in publications in high impact journals

  • Collaborating on this research with other Melbourne research personnel

  • Actively participating in research seminars and conferences to disseminate research findings in their area of expertise as opportunities arise

  • Assisting and actively contributing, under the guidance of senior academics, to the preparation of research proposal submissions to external funding bodies

Who We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate should possess a strong research background with relevant publications in the field of dark matter particle physics, along with expertise in developing particle physics instrumentation.

You will also have:

  • Completion of a PhD in physics in either dark matter detection, high energy physics, or Astro particle physics

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare research reports and manuscripts for publication

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, administer and see through to completion appropriately designed research projects with limited supervision
