SABRE South's journey to Stawell set to begin in late-2025

The SABRE South collaboration is preparing for the dark matter experiment to journey into its final destination in the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory in mid-2025.

The journey will be a considerable undertaking, with the vessel travelling from its current home at Swinburne’s Wantirna Campus in Melbourne to Stawell.

It will then be transported 1km underground through tight tunnels before it comes to rest in the laboratory.

Dark Matter Centre Director Elisabetta Barberio explains the process and we begin the exciting journey towards SABRE South!

New research into the cosmic radiation in the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory has given the green light to the SABRE South dark matter experiment that will begin in 2026.

Physicists explain how they are preparing for the arrival of the SABRE South dark matter experiment in the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory. New equipment in the lab includes a glovebox and gas system.
