Professor Gianfranco Bertone is an internationally renowned theoretical physicist working at the interface between particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology.

He has extensive expertise in dark matter physics, from searches at the Large Hadron Collider to its effects on astrophysical systems and how it might produce detectable signals from astrophysical sources.

With expertise that spans the full range of dark matter research, his role within the Centre will span three of the Centre’s research programs: the Dark Matter Theory, Direct Detection and Large Hadron Collider programs.

As a theoretician conversant in astrophysics, cosmology and particle physics, and with a deep knowledge of the indirect detection of dark matter from astrophysical signals, he will provide a synergy between the theoretical and experimental aspects of the Centre’s research.

With considerable student supervision, researcher mentoring experience, and connections to the international dark-matter community, Professor Bertone will contribute to career and networking possibilities for the Centre’s students and research fellows.
