Deputy director

Professor Cedric Simenel is an internationally recognised leader in quantum many-body approaches to describe low-energy nuclear dynamics, and he is the Deputy Director of the Centre. Whilst a theorist, he works closely with experimentalists in order to provide a strong synergy between these two aspects of nuclear physics.

As Head of the Department of Fundamental and Theoretical Physics at the ANU, he has a vision to reinforce collaborations with experimental groups, including in the field of dark matter research.

Within the Centre, Professor Simenel brings his expertise in low-energy nuclear structure to investigate the response of nuclei when interacting with a dark matter particle, via the development of numerical simulations of nuclear many-body systems. In addition he brings his strong involvement in improving Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and in student supervision and early-career-researcher mentoring to the people of the Centre.
